“Do you know that in a race all the runners compete, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. Well, I do not run aimlessly, I do not box as one beating the air; but I pummel my body and subdue it, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.” - I Corinthians 9:24-27
Written long ago and still relevant today, this scripture portrays the philosophy of the Little Rock Christian Athletics Department. Using athletics as a part of the total education program, coaches and administration strive to help the athlete develop into a spiritually alive, intellectually alert and physically disciplined individual. Life lessons such as punctuality, perseverance, teamwork, self-discipline and dedication learned in athletic arenas give students an opportunity to reflect the character of Christ both on and off the field. Christ-centered athletics provides an avenue for witnessing to teammates, opponents, and spectators. Athletes, fans, parents, cheerleaders and staff are encouraged and expected to reflect Christ by winning humbly and losing graciously.
Little Rock Christian joined the Arkansas Activities Association in 2000. Since that time Warrior athletic teams have become competitive in each of the twelve sports offered for both Junior and Senior High students. Little Rock Christian has won conference championships in cross country, volleyball, tennis, soccer, and basketball. Additionally, basketball, tennis, and golf teams have won state championships.
From developing their athletic skills to reaching their ultimate potential, Little Rock Christian athletics will remain committed to helping the student athlete become the person God created him/her to be, running the race in such a way that they may obtain the prize.
