I don’t know the exact elevation of Asuncion, Paraguay but I surmise it sits at a higher elevation (above sea level) than Little Rock. That said, in an effort to give lift to elementary Spanish, Little Rock Christian Academy is piloting an innovative, interactive platform for conversational Spanish at the primary level.
You may rightly exclaim, “What in the world?”
Thanks to the vision of The Maclellan Foundation (TN), our proposal to couple with a Spanish-speaking foreign school for the instruction of first grade Spanish was validated and funded.
Again, you may exclaim, “What in the world?”
For the next thirty weeks, our first-graders will tune into a first grade classroom in Paraguay, South America via Skype. The school is a mission school called Asuncion Christian Academy. Over time, their Spanish-speaking teacher will teach our first graders some primary elements of conversational Spanish. (Learning more about Skype Translator will be a side benefit of this trial.) We are planning to connect with ACA two times a week for 15 minutes per session. Tuition is not used for this particular program. Generously, the Maclellan Foundation is funding this pilot program.

Mrs. Chami, Mrs. Pendleton and Mrs. Fisher will supervise the program and I am grateful for their willingness to do this extra mile. Our pilot program will span two years. After two years, we will determine if we shall extend the virtual language-learning project.
As always, we aspire to higher ground.
