Oh, the joy of winning! The Model UN club researched, debated, and fraternized at the prestigious Rhodes College, Mid South conference. Congratulations to Stephen Curry for the 2nd place position paper. Between committee and general assembly meetings, we toured the beautiful campus and learned about various programs offered at the college. Everyone represented Mexico, diligently arguing her position on world dilemnas such as global arms sales, peacekeeping in post-colonial territories, human rights and extreme poverty, and eradicating the death penalty. The International Criminal Court tried Omar Hassan al-Bashir and convicted him of all 10 counts. Meanwhile, the International Press Corp produced newsletters and several telecasts recording the events. Aaron Fields stepped up to the leadership role as head delegate; encouraging and helping others to do their best. The students experienced an emergency simulation where the world was infected with a deadly virus and decisions had to be made as situations developed. Only three of us were given gas masks to survive the "epidemic." This was a great, interactive conference.
