Arkansas Model United Nations

With LRCA's largest delegation of 16 participants, we rallied together and represented Uganda, Cameroon, and Djibouti in global topics such as: reducing military expenditures, the legality of "enhanced interrogation," the global financial crisis, and the right of people to self determination. While new club members learned the ropes, seasoned delegates engerized the committees. After weeks of research and submitting position papers, everyone enjoyed the actual debating and garnering of votes for resolutions. Colin Brineman and Lizzey Furrey won the student vote for rapporteur in the Security Council and Social and Humanitarian Council respectively. In addition to presenting what the committee accomplished to to General Assembly, they were presented with gavels during the awards ceremony. Additionally we were awarded two honorable mentions for Outstanding Delegates. Congratulations for a winning conference.

Arkansas Model United Nations Conference

Nearly 70 countries were represented in this year's simulation. Delegations traveled all over Arkansas as well as Tennessee and Mississippi. During the opening ceremony in Reynols Performance Hall, a former UCA graduate and AMUN Secretary-General, Lieutenant Colonel James Owens spoke about his first experiences in Model UN and its impact on his future. His address was inspiring and encouraging. Afterwards each committe was chaired by a season Model UN college student which produced an excellent conference.
