LRCA Wrestling Team Takes Second At State Tournament

This weekend at the Jack Stephens Arena, the Little Rock Christian Warrior Wrestlers took second place in the state tournament for the second year in a row.   The score was LRCA 253, Beebe 255.5.  The loss to Beebe by 2.5 points is the closest margin between first and second place in state wrestling history in either division 1A/5A or 6A/7A.  LRCA boasts four State Champions which is more than any other school in either division.  LRCA entered 12 wrestlers into the tournament with 9 finishing in the top 6 places.

The Warrior State Champions are:  RJ Quilao 112 lbs., Daniel Perez 125 lbs., Nicholas Kurfess 130 lbs. (the first two-time state wrestling champion for LRCA), and Tim Kimbrough 189 lbs.  Additional All-State Wrestlers include: 2nd place Josh Hurlbut 135 lbs., 3rd place Zach Winston 103 lbs. and Sam Coburn 119 lbs.  Rounding out the finalists Kyle Vaughan took 5th at 140 lbs. and Josh Woodruff took 6th at 160 lbs.

Head Coach Danny Newton and Assistant Coaches Bill Scholl, Pat DuBose, Leland Kurfess and Chaz Cointment commented that they are very proud of each and every member of the team.  The team will lose only one senior, Kyle Vaughan, for next season. The coaches are eagerly looking forward to another exciting season of wrestling next year.
