LITTLE ROCK CHRISTIAN ACADEMY BUISNESS STUDENTS CAPTURE STATE TITLE
IN “ARKANSAS PERSONAL FINANCE CHALLENGE”

Little Rock – April 23, 2009

Little Rock Christian Academy business students captured the state title in the Arkansas Personal Finance Challenge held April 14 at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Arkansas.  The competition consisted of concepts on savings, investing, money management, credit, income, spending and the Federal Reserve Bank System.

The Arkansas Personal Finance Challenge is an opportunity for high school students to demonstrate their knowledge of personal finance by competing with other students across the state.  Teams consist of four students that compete in a multiple-choice online qualifier to decide who progresses to the state competition.  The two top-scoring teams from each of the six regions in the state compete in a quiz bowl on personal finance to take home the championship trophy.   Little Rock Christian Academy swept the Regional competition, placing first and second, allowing them to send two teams to the State Financial Challenge Quiz Bowl.  These two teams then placed first and second in the state contest.  The first place team consisted of Annette Collins, Hall Fess, Brittany Jones and Jeffrey Turk.  Second place was awarded to David Fitzgerald, Austin, Lynch, Wes Rhodes and Cameron Tedder.

This is LRCA’s first year to participate in the event and to have eleven teams in the preliminary competition is outstanding,” said Susie Thompson, LRCA business teacher and Future Business Leaders of America sponsor.  “I am so proud of our students for placing first and second in the state competition.  This is a huge accomplishment.”
