SEVENTEEN LITTLE ROCK CHRISTIAN ACADEMY SENIORS QUALIFY FOR
GOVERNOR’S DISTINGUISHED SCHOLARSHIP

Little Rock, February 25, 2009

Little Rock, February 25, 2009 – Little Rock Christian Academy announced seventeen seniors have qualified for the Governor’s Distinguished Scholarship and seventy seven have qualified for the Governor’s Scholarship.  This represents 85% of the senior class.  “These numbers are remarkable”, said Joe Neff, Principal of the Upper School at LRCA, “our dedicated students and teachers should be encouraged with this accomplishment.”

Recognizing that Arkansas’ bright young leaders make valuable contributions not only to colleges and universities but also to the state, the Arkansas Legislature enacted the Governor’s Scholars Program for the purpose of encouraging Arkansas’ best high school students to remain in Arkansas for their college education.  Each year, Arkansas’ academically superior high school graduates will be offered scholarships from the state to assist them in their undergraduate studies at any of Arkansas’ public and private colleges or universities.

The Governor’s Distinguished Scholarship is awarded to students that meet the criteria of a 32 composite score on a single ACT or 1410 combined math and critical reasoning score on a single SAT and 3.5 academic grade point average or selection as a National Achievement Finalist or National Merit Finalist.  The scholarship awards $10,000 a year for four years if the student maintains a 3.25 GPA.

The Governor’s Scholarship selection is awarded to students who score the highest in their county based on 45% ACT or SAT test score, 35% high school grade point average in academic courses, 10% class rank and 10% leadership.  The scholarship awards $4000 a year for four years if the student maintains a 3.0 GPA.

“These sums are a strong indicator of our school’s academic prowess”, said Dr. Gary Arnold, Head of School at LRCA, “clearly, our seniors have been prepared to thrive in college.”
