LITTLE ROCK CHRISTIAN ACADEMY’S LITERARY MAGAZINE RECEIVES NATIONAL RECOGNITION

Little Rock/February 5, 2009

Little Rock Christian Academy’s literary magazine, In Media Res, received a rank of Superior-Nominated for Highest Award, in the NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English) Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines.  A total of 489 schools entered the 2008 program with 92 magazines nominated for highest award and 59 magazines selected to receive the highest award.  Little Rock Christian Academy was one of two schools in Arkansas to receive this award.  “This is significant recognition on the national level especially for a first year publication,” said Joe Neff, Principal of the Upper School.  “Congratulations to the LRCA English department and students who worked diligently to produce this magazine.”

NCTE’s Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines (PRESLM) recognizes students, teachers and schools for producing excellent literary magazines.  The program’s mission is to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines, seeking excellence in writing and school-wide participation in production.  The National Association of Secondary School Principals has placed this program on the NASSP National Advisory List of Student Contests and Activities for 2008-2009.  A list of ranked magazine is available at http://www.ncte.org/awards/student/PRESLM.
