CONSIDERABLE PROGRESS MADE ON LITTLE ROCK CHRISTIAN ACADEMY CAMPUS TRANSFORMATION

Little Rock, January 30, 2009

Since breaking ground in September, considerable progress has been made on the construction of the Little Rock Christian Academy "For Such a Time as This" campus transformation project. The project includes adding a new high school building and athletic field house as well as updating and enhancing the school's fine arts, elementary and middle school facilities.

Significant site work has occurred over the past several months in preparation for the concrete that is now being poured and the steel that will soon be erected. “The day the steel was delivered was an exciting day on campus” said Jason Carson, Director of Development at Little Rock Christian Academy. “The project is progressing as expected and construction of the new high school should be completed by the first day of school in August, 2009.”

The new high school will include 31 classrooms, science labs and computer labs. It will also contain a state of the art library and media center, additional space for fine arts and office areas such as guidance and student services. A larger, more versatile dining commons will accommodate the growing student population.

The campus transformation project includes moving the middle school into the existing high school building. This will significantly improve the educational facilities for LRCA students in grades 6-8. This space will allow middle school academic classes to reside under one roof: gaining a library, enhanced technology labs, larger classrooms and a more contemporary cafeteria.

The relocation of the middle school will allow the current multi-purpose building to be dedicated for elementary school use. Elementary students will enjoy the benefit of an art room, computer labs, and gymnasium. As a capstone, a canopy will be erected to protect students from inclement weather.

Extracurricular activities at LRCA will benefit from the campus transformation as well. To accommodate the growth of the band, choir and art programs the newly designated fine arts building will be renovated to increase the capacity for art, drama and music studios. The new Warrior field house will upgrade the athletic facilities with a new weight room, locker rooms, storage space and staff offices.

The fundraising total-to-date is $7.7 million pledged with $1.3 million needed to complete the overall $9 million goal. According to the Head of School Dr. Gary Arnold, “It is very gratifying and exhilarating to serve a school community that is devoted to both educational excellence and the critical partnership between home, church and school. That’s what our campus represents – partnership!”
