LRCA Educator Receives NASA Grant to Attend
Space Exploration Educators Conference
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Little Rock – October 12, 2009
Mrs. Terri Simpson, 5th grade teacher at Little Rock Christian Academy, was recently awarded an Outreach Grant by the Arkansas Space Grant Consortium to attend the 16th Annual Space Exploration Educators Conference.
The conference is a complete submersion into the out-of-this world adventure of space exploration. The Space Center Houston strives to use space to teach across the curriculum. The activities presented can be used for science, language arts, mathematics and history. Sessions are hosted by actual scientists and engineers working on exciting endeavors including the International Space Station, Mars exploration, and the planets beyond. Astronauts will present their bold vision to send humans back to the Moon and off to Mars. Sally K. Ride, PH.D, will be the keynote speaker. Dr. Ride, a former NASA Astronaut and the first American woman in space, is dedicated to the education of young boys and girls in the fields of math, science and technology.
The space grant colleges compose a network of 52 consortia, based at universities across the United States, for outer space related research. Each consortium is based in one of the 50 states and consists of multiple independent institutions. Mrs. Simpson received her grant from the University of Arkansas, at Little Rock, the lead institution in the state of Arkansas.
“I am honored to have the opportunity this grant provides me”, said Mrs. Simpson, “it will be exciting to attend the conference and bring back innovative, hands on activities to the children at Little Rock Christian Academy”.
