Little Rock Christian Academy Students Selected for 2010 Arkansas Governor’s SchoolFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Little Rock – May 11, 2010 Five Little Rock Christian Academy students were recently selected for the 2010 Arkansas Governor’s School. Grace Cho (Instrumental Music), Kunhee Kim (Natural Science), Faye McConnell (English/Language Arts), Mary Simpson (English/Language Arts) and Juliann Tucker (Social Science) were selected based on the basis of their special aptitudes in one of eight fields: Choral Music, Drama, English/Language Arts, Instrumental Music, Mathematics, Natural Science, Social Science, or Visual Arts. Connor Shewmake was chosen as an alternate in Natural Science. Six hundred and fifty Arkansas students applied for the four hundred available positions. “Scholars deserve scholarships”, said Dr. Gary Arnold, Head of School at LRCA. “Little Rock Christian Academy is proud of our home-grown scholars who have earned the Governor’s School scholarship – the zenith of scholarships in Arkansas.” The Arkansas Governor’s School is a four-week summer residential program for gifted and talented students who are upcoming high school seniors and residents of the state of Arkansas. The program is funded by the Arkansas State Legislature as a portion of the biennial appropriation for Gifted and Talented Programs through the State Department of Education. State funds provide tuition, room, board, and instructional materials for each student who attends the four-week program on the site of a residential college campus, leased by the State. The Arkansas Governor’s School is a non-credit program that seeks to create a unique experience for a select group of Arkansas’ best students—the potential leaders of the 21st century. Additional information about the program can be found at www.hendrix.edu/ags.
