7 & 8th Grade Choir
Middle School  7th & 8th Grade Mixed Chorus Classes are Fine Arts Electives which meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and every other Friday.  8th Grade meets during 5th period, and 7th grade meets during 6th period.  Instruction in good vocal techniques will be emphasized, along with basic skills in sight-reading and harmonization in two to four parts.  Both the boys and the girls will receive instruction to develop their changing voices as they mature, and a variety of vocal musical styles, from sacred to Broadway/pop to gospel will be explored.

Students in 8th Grade Mixed Chorus may, if they are motivated to learn the music, voluntarily audition for the Jr. High All-Region Choir, for which try-outs are usually held in October.  For students interested in participating in this outstanding learning opportunity, more information will be made available.

Mixed Chorus has three required performances in the school year.  Attendance at these performances and their rehearsals is mandatory and graded.

Service
Service class provides an opportunity for students to learn about biblical service and practice through direct work in various roles around campus.  There will be some study of service and periodic personal and group discussion on what each is doing and learning, but most of the time will be spent serving.  This opportunity should provide deeper relationships, understanding of giftedness, dependence on God, and make a difference in our school community.

Logic
Formal Logic is designed to hone the reasoning skills of the student by introducing them to the process and practice of deductive reasoning.  This type of reasoning deals with logical arguments, which consist of two or more premises and a conclusion.  If the conclusion is drawn necessarily from the assumed truth of the premises, then the argument is said to be valid.  The course examines the structure of arguments and covers such topics as statements and their relationships, syllogisms and validity, arguments in normal English, and informal fallacies. It is the goal of the course to help students recognize fallacious reasoning, while making sure that their own arguments are valid. This will better prepare the student for both the Worldview curriculum in high school and for life as a Christian in a "Don't think-feel world."

7th and 8th Grade Band
The 7/8th grade band have two options, they can join band with one year of experience and just be in concert band which is year round or they can also join marching band which will require that they attend band camp on campus July 31,  Aug1, 4, 5.  They will be required to come to after school rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursdays during football season.  This is just another option for them, it is not required to be in marching band in junior high.

The strings program is a new program and will consist of beginner members.  They will have the option to play violin, viola, cello or bass.  This will be attended during the daytime schedule.  Recruitment will take place in the fall.

7th and 8th Grade Drama
This course offers students the opportunity for participation in a variety of drama activities, such as: pantomime, monologues, character analysis, improvisation, and scene work. The class focuses on building student self confidence, creative expression, and cooperative learning. This is a performance-based class where students will present select scenes and monologues at the end of the course.

8th Grade Leadership
Leadership is designed to help students learn and practice Biblical leadership.  Students will study leading though serving, the importance of character and modeling, the power of positive leadership in both formal and informal leadership roles, and practical tools such as vision.  This class will have guest speakers, study Scripture and current materials, and flow between ideas and application, which is accomplished through the practice of leading by serving.

Art
The Art curriculum is designed to sharpen the child's visual perception, encourage personal expression, and refine problem solving skills.  The student will learn to express himself through line, shape, color, space, form and texture challenging his full range of ability and development.  The student's varied abilities demonstrate his uniqueness and shall be used to glorify God.  The student shall be encouraged to seek those things that demonstrate godliness and avoiding those which pollute his mind and heart.  (Philippians 4:8, 1 Corinthians 6:12, 10:23).  As he examines and visually records the majesty of God's creation, we desire that he will gain a better understanding of our Savior and develop his abilities far beyond his original expectations.
