Walnut Valley Farm

Walnut Valley Farm (WVF) provides an on-campus learning environment which extends outside the classroom and into the dedicated half acre landscape just southwest of Warrior Arena. The space provides an engaging atmosphere where students grow in connection with nature, exploring the biodynamics of small-scale sustainable farming practices.  Students learn how to care for the animals, sow, and harvest a variety of crops, and tend to various chores while developing responsibility and resourcefulness.

Farming with purpose

In our Agricultural Ecology class, high school students take on real responsibilities in managing the school farm. They learn how to grow food sustainably, care for animals, and understand the role agriculture plays in both local and global systems. It's purposeful, hands-on work that builds knowledge, confidence, and a sense of contribution.

Early roots in agriculture

Through farm visits, elementary and middle school students are introduced to the basics of growing food and caring for animals. They begin to understand where food comes from and why sustainability matters. It’s early exposure that makes a lasting impression.

Growing Minds on the Farm

WVF serves as a dynamic outdoor classroom that supports student learning across all grades.  Students from elementary to high school are able to engage in farm activities through “field trips”, composting, planting flowers, growing and releasing ladybugs, Summer in Warriorville Farm Camp, bee pollination viewing, produce and herb tasting, animal care, and much more.  Students apply biology, ecology, and environmental science concepts in a real-world setting.
