Once you apply to a school, go to SCOIR, go to “My Colleges,” move the school to the “Applied” Column. This will send a notification to your counselor and request a transcript (SCOIR applications roll over in August so it may not work like this just yet).

Two important notes: the “Applying” column does not send us notifications; colleges will not accept transcripts from you so it is important that you follow the protocol.

Only if you are applying to four or more colleges, especially out of state and more selective, it streamlines part of the process. If you’re doing fewer apps than that, it could create more work for you. It is important to note that Common App rolls over on August 1, so any progress from the summer should be saved unless you started on school-specific supplemental essays (start those in a Google Doc instead).

Under the Schools tab, you’ll need to pick a school and go through the FERPA waiver process. Once you have done that, you’ll be able to add your Counselor by inputting their name and email address. One step that will you save time later is to give your counselor preview access. After you have added your counselor, you can select “Enable Preview” which will let your counselor see your saved progress in your Common App. It’s essentially just an easy way to share info without having to set up meetings to discuss Common App progress.

As a rule of thumb, once you’re sure your senior schedule is set and not changing is probably a good time to hit submit. You can and should start working on some applications sooner, but don’t feel like you need to hit submit before your schedule is set, much less before school begins.

LRCA’s GPA is on a 4.0 scale; you can find your GPA in SCOIR.

If an application asks for a ranking, please choose the option that is “My school does not rank” or “Not Applicable,” etc. Most applications should give you that option since this is common practice among private schools.

It depends on the school and the type of application deadline. Some schools have a decision-release schedule. For rolling applications, the deadline and amount of time will vary. Make sure you use full advantage of college-issued portals to keep track of what they have received and what they still need from you.

• This varies widely from school to school. Since many colleges and universities still have test-optional policies, we continue to keep test scores off of transcripts. This policy is to put your testing information in your control.  Some colleges will want the score sent from ACT/College Board (which costs money). Some will want it on the transcript - if so, just ask us to add it. Some will accept a downloaded score report sent through SCOIR. Some will accept a screenshot of your account info as long as it has your information in it. Read websites, talk with counselors, and talk with college reps to make the best decision.

Let your counselor know immediately. If you’re denied, many schools have an appeals process. If you’re deferred or waitlisted, time and interest matter a lot. Again, your counselor is here to help you navigate those processes.

The Self-reported Student Academic Report (SSAR) and Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR) is where some institutions have students enter their full high school academic record. You will need to obtain a copy of your transcript from your counselor.
