Be our guest in the enchanted world of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast with Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress.
If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will be broken, and he will be transformed into his former self…but time is running out! With classic songs such as “Belle”, “Be Our Guest”, “Gaston”, “Beauty and the Beast”, this tale as old as time will bring your entire family together.
MUSIC BY: Alan Menken LYRICS BY: Howard Ashman and Tim Rice BOOK BY: Linda Woolverton

High School Auditions
Important Audition Information:
Audition Specifics
Due to a rising number in cases and quarantines we wanted to make auditions as fair as possible for all students.
All initial auditions will be virtual. Callbacks will be in person.
1. Register for auditions so we have all your info.
2. Students will need to video the following for their auditions:
-
Song of choice - Students will sing a 30 second song cut from any Disney Musical. Consider choosing a song that best showcases your vocal abilities. Please do not audition with a song from Beauty and the Beast. Songs should be performed a cappella (no accompaniment).
-
Dance - Watch the dance tutorial video provided. Record yourself performing the dance.
-
Monologues - The directors have chosen six monologues from the script. Girls- perform all three girl monologues. Boys- perform all three boy monologues. Monologues do not have to be memorized.
3. Upload your video(s) to a google folder and share with Mrs. Shepherd by January 14 at midnight.
Girl Monologues
Belle: Good morning. I’ve come to return the book I borrowed. Oh, I couldn’t put it down. Have you got anything new? That’s all right. I’ll borrow…this one! Well, it’s my favorite. Far-off places, daring sword fights, magic spells, a prince in disguise…But sir! Well, thank you. Thank you very much!
Wardrobe: Well, now what shall we dress you in for dinner? This is nice. But how would you like to borrow one of my gowns? Let’s see what I’ve got in my drawers…Ah, Here we are. I wore this the night I performed at the Royal Opera. The King himself was there! Of course, I wouldn’t have a prayer of fitting into it now. Take it!
Babette: Lumiere…oh Lumiere! It’s my hands, isn’t it? You do not love me anymore! Oh, this horrible horrible spell…Oh no…no…no! I’ve been burnt by you before!
Boy Monologues
Gaston: Picture this! A rustic hunting lodge. My latest kill roasting on the fire. My little wife, massaging my feet, while the little ones play on the floor with the dogs. We'll have six or seven. No, Belle! Strapping boys, like me!
Lumiere: Ma chere, Mademoiselle it is with deepest pride and greatest pleasure that we welcome you tonight. And now we invite you to relax, let us pull up a chair, as the Dining Room proudly presents…your dinner!
Beast: This is your room. I hope you’ll be comfortable here. If you need anything, my servants will attend you. And one more thing. You will join me for dinner. That is not a request!
"Chip" Auditions
Auditions for "Chip" are open to LRCA boys in grades 5, 6, and 7.
Auditions for "Chip" will be casual and we will do our best to help the students relax and have fun! Auditions will include:
- students will be asked to introduce themselves, ie: "Hi, my name is Johnny Chapman. I'm in 5th grade and I like to play baseball."
- Mr. Curry will teach students a couple of lines from the song "Human Again". They will get to sing it together as a group and individually. If you'd like to hear the song before coming, you can listen to the first 45 seconds of the song here.
Callbacks for "Chip" will be held January 27 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Parents will be notified via email by January 26 on who should come to callbacks.
Our goal is for students to have a very positive experience at auditions. We will do everything we can to that end. Trying something new is hard but builds character ...we are so very proud of them!
Please let me know if you have questions -

Audition and Casting Policies
Audition and Casting Policies:
- All students Grades 9-12 are welcome to audition.
2. No previous experience is required, but previous roles and training in dance, singing and acting may be taken into consideration.
3. No preference is given for a role based on seniority. All parts will be cast based on many factors. Primary among them the ones listed below:
- SINGING ABILITY Pitch, vocal tone and color, ability to harmonize, appropriate range, stage presence, interpretation of lyrics.
- ACTING ABILITY Demonstration of ability to act; interpret; take direction; improvise and mime; maintain concentration and focus, and a pleasing and helpful work ethic when in a group setting. Additional factors: stage presence, suitable size and look for a part, suitable size and look in pairing with lead males and females.
- DANCE ABILITY Dance ability: ability to dance; to master the choreography given during the audition; physical stamina and coordination; willingness to learn new things ability to teach others if you have dance experience. Demonstration of stage presence in dance.
- PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE Demonstrated work ethic in previous roles; lines learned accurately and on time, punctual and present at all rehearsals; positive and encouraging attitude toward directors and fellow actors; willingness to take direction and perform role as directed; no missed lines, cues, scene changes or props; properly cared for all costumes, wigs and hats; erased and turned in all scripts on time.
- AVAILABILITY AND DEDICATION Willingness to clear schedule if cast in a lead role; willingness to present a master calendar to all coaches and sponsors in order to create an agreed upon schedule if any activities conflict with rehearsals, tech weeks and performance dates; willingness to return a signed list of all possible family conflicts from a parent or guardian.
4. The final decision is the prerogative of the directors. The cast list when posted is considered final. If a student chooses to not accept a role, normally the actor who was the next in place will be moved up to that role and someone else will be moved up from the ensemble to replace them. Cast members will be notified of the changes in advance of the first rehearsal or when rehearsals begin.
Casting is not a science. Often a director will perceive something in an actor that is not measurable. Years of experience evaluating talent and potential in amateur performers help the directors identify this special “something” that makes a particular actor right for a particular part.
Tips for Having a Good Audition
Tips for Having a Good Audition:
- Stay quiet and do not distract others during the auditions.
- Make note of any scenes or songs you would like to try (even if you do not get asked to read them). Usually the director will ask if anyone would like to read or sing anything at the end. At this time, you may request to do a song or a scene, and may give a knock-out reading that surprises the director!
- Do some research in advance by reviewing scenes or songs in the show. Look online (YouTube) for previous HS productions of a show, or order the show on NETFLIX, etc.
- In auditions, normally some of the songs will be taught to the group, then, several students at a time will be heard by the director. At the end of the audition, the director will let individuals know if they should work on a particular song to be heard at the next audition. It is important to note that being asked to sing a certain song later, it is not a guarantee that you are being considered for the role.
- Wear proper shoes. Take note of any particular clothing or shoes that are suggested for the movement/dance portion of the audition. For example, don’t wear flip-flops or UGGS.
- For High School students, consider attending all audition days. Although it is not required to attend all days of the auditions, it is strongly suggested if you want to be considered for a lead role. This will allow you to see the competition, and will allow the director to have you read in multiple and varied combinations of actors, as well as to hear you sing more than once. It also allows time for you to perfect the dance audition, and demonstrates your level of interest in the project.
- Again, remember to stay quiet and attentive, and ask to read or sing something you feel you are right for!
