Band & Orchestra

Grade 5 Instrumental Music introduces students to the fundamentals of reading music, rhythm, and instrument technique before they choose a path in band or orchestra the following year. Students explore woodwind, brass, percussion, and string instruments in a hands-on setting designed to build confidence and curiosity.

This course lays the foundation for a successful transition into Grade 6 Beginning Band or Beginning Strings, helping students discover which instrument family is the best fit for them.

Grade 6 Beginning Band is designed for students with no prior experience on a band instrument. Students learn the fundamentals of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments, including proper technique, tone production, and note reading.

Beginning Band students participate in 1-2 performances a semester, giving them an early opportunity to perform for family and friends while building the skills needed to advance into Junior High Band.

Grade 6 Beginning Strings is designed for students with no prior experience on a string instrument. Students learn the fundamentals of violin, viola, cello, or bass, including proper technique, tone production, and note reading.

Beginning Strings students participate in 1-2 performances a semester, giving them an early opportunity to perform for family and friends while building the skills needed to advance into Junior High Orchestra.

Junior High Band is designed for students with 1-2 years of experience, generally students entering the 7th grade. The Junior High Band participates in approximately 2-3 performances a semester, including pep rallies, concerts, and competitions. 

Junior HIgh Band provides an environment where students of various abilities can grow and be challenged together. Students are encouraged to participate in ASBOA/AAA activities such as Solo & Ensemble and All-Region.

Junior HIgh Orchestra is designed for students with 1-2 years of experience.  This group participates in approximately 2-3 performances a semester, including honor ensembles, concerts, and competitions.

Junior High Orchestra provides an environment where students of various abilities can grow and be challenged together.  Students are encouraged to participate in ASBOA/AAA activities such as Solo & Ensemble and All-Region. 

The Warrior Marching/Concert Band is a high school performance group that participates in ASBOA and AAA activities, presents concerts in the fall and spring, and plays for high school sporting events. Students are encouraged to audition for All-Region Band and other honors.

Band students enjoy travel opportunities as a performance group.

Students must participate in marching band and concert band to enroll in the class.

The Warrior Jazz Band is a high school performance group that participates in ASBOA and AAA activities, presents concerts in the fall and spring, and plays for high school sporting events. Students are encouraged to audition for All-Region Jazz Band and other honors. Students enrolled in the Jazz Band take a performance/mission-based trip each year. Students must participate in band or orchestra to be in the Jazz Band. 

The Warrior Orchestra is a high school performance group that participates in ASBOA and AAA activities, presents concerts in the fall and spring, and plays for various school events.

Students enrolled in this class are encouraged to audition for All-Region Orchestra and for other honors. 

Orchestra students enjoy travel opportunities as a performance group.

This course instructs the serious musician on the terminology and musical structures needed for modern application. Skills developed in this course will pay dividends in students’ musicianship and knowledge of written music, serving them well in any musical endeavor for many years to come.

Students must be dedicated to exploring and mastering the inner mechanics of music to reach success in this course. Topics covered include music notation, key signatures, scales (basic and modal), intervals, modes, diatonic relationships, harmonic structure, ear-training, and chordal analysis.

Assignments consist of written theory exercises, sight-reading, and composition projects. Students must take the AP Exam in May.
