Choir

Music is meant to be enjoyable, and it certain is that in the elementary music classroom. With a dedicated, energetic music teacher, students preschool through 4th grade are exposed to a variety of music styles and methods including Kodaly, Orff, and music theory lessons.  Sequenced class time combines singing, rhythm, movement, critical thinking, and aural skills to help students discover fundamental musical concepts in a fun, pedagogically sound, and interactive way. 

Performances take place during school hours as well as during special programs, such as a grade level Christmas or Spring program, to the all-Elementary performance on Grandparents Day each April.

Fifth grade students participate in an academic performing arts rotation which combines instrumental music, choral music, and theatre.  Advancement in music theory, pitch, and harmony are taught, as well as introduction into standards in performing arts.  

Performance opportunities include both in school concerts as well as a Christmas & Spring program.

Beginning Choir Girls is a performing ensemble open to students in the 6th grade. This introductory choral ensemble will equip the beginner choir student with foundational singing technique and music sight reading skills.  Students will discover a safe place to overcome singing anxiety and learn to hone their gifts with a great degree of proficiency and excellence. 

Beginning Choir will have performance opportunities.

Legacy Choir is a performing ensemble open to all girls in the 6th-8th grades. This introductory choral ensemble will not only equip the beginner choir student with foundational singing technique and music sight reading skills, but will also challenge the seasoned choral veteran to grow in their leadership within their section. Students will discover a safe place to overcome singing anxiety and learn to hone their gifts with a great degree of proficiency and excellence. 

Legacy Choir will give approximately 3 performances a semester, and participates in a Fall Retreat and a Spring competition trip at Magic Springs Theme Park. Students are encouraged to participate in AAA/ArkCDA activities such All-Region Choir auditions.

Encore Choir is a performing ensemble open to all boys in the 6th-8th grades.  This group seeks to be a strong brotherhood of men who are committed to building one another up and to excellence in the pursuit of a strong and unified sound.  This introductory choral ensemble will not only equip the beginner choir student with foundational singing technique and music sight reading skills, but will also challenge the seasoned choral veteran to grow in their leadership within their section.

Encore Choir will give approximately 3 performances a semester, and participates in a Fall Retreat and a Spring competition trip to Magic Springs Theme Park. Students are encouraged to participate in AAA/ArkCDA activities such All-Region Choir auditions.

Warrior Choir is a performing ensemble that presents fall, Christmas, and spring concerts, competes in regional AAA choral competitions, and sings for a variety of audiences in Central Arkansas. Joining Warrior Choir equips students with the confidence and determination to use and develop their God-given vocal instruments as they strive to produce a full and well-balanced choral sound. Skills taught include healthy singing technique, choral and solo singing, and applied music theory. Repertoire includes a full range of styles: madrigal, classical, foreign language, sacred, spirituals, contemporary, and Broadway. Students are encouraged to audition for All-Region Choir and other honors.

This course instructs the serious musician on the terminology and musical structures needed for modern application. Skills developed in this course will pay dividends in students’ musicianship and knowledge of written music, serving them well in any musical endeavor for many years to come.

Students must be dedicated to exploring and mastering the inner mechanics of music to reach success in this course. Topics covered include music notation, key signatures, scales (basic and modal), intervals, modes, diatonic relationships, harmonic structure, ear-training, and chordal analysis.

Assignments consist of written theory exercises, sight-reading, and composition projects. Students must take the AP Exam in May.
