Alumni and Business Awards given at "Wild About Warriors 2018"

On Saturday, April 14, LRCA's Parent Teacher Fellowship hosted Wild About Warriors 2018 with an outdoor carnival twist, including outdoor games, activities, food trucks, and a special student showcase. During the event, the annual Alumni and Business Awards were given to two special recipients: Sarah Crabill and Pediatrics Plus.

Making the Final Turn into the Final Leg of '17-18

"Run to the name of the Lord...Run with horses" - our figure of speech for advancing the mission this year.  Can you sense it among the students? Can you see it on campus? Can you hear it among the citizens of Warriorville?  It's quite palpable.  Making the turn into the final leg of '17-18, I'm eager to update you on three highlights...

A Culture of Academic Rigor

Walking the streets of Portland, Oregon last summer, my eyes locked onto a storefront sign that read, “You did not wake up to be mediocre.” Ironically, it was a mediocre sign in an unexceptional, run- of-the-mill, second-rate, middling storefront. Nonetheless, the message of the faded sign was true. I did not wake up to be mediocre today. Neither did you.

The Sound of Music

Coming to Little Rock Christian's Warrior Hall, the well-loved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music! This acclaimed show comes with a 100 member student cast, crew, and orchestra who will perform some of the most memorable songs ever performed on the musical theatre stage.

LRCA Alum Audrey Davis wins central Arkansas contest

LRCA Class of 2018 graduate Audrey Davis was named the winner of the Central Arkansas Drain Smart competition.  Drain Smart is an engaging public-education / environmental program that uses art to communicate the function and importance of local storm drains.

Class of 2018 Commits to Run with Horses

Commencement 2018 was a picture window into the house of Warriors and the building going on inside. From the testimonies of the evening, it is clear that the Spirit is alive and well and working among us. Six LRCA Seniors named to Little Rock Family's "Head of the Class" 2018

Little Rock Family Magazine recognized more than 60 top seniors from central Arkansas' public, private and parochial schools in their Head of the Class special section. Congratulations to seniors Hannah Cheatham, Erin Foley, Adeline Geoghagan, Rose Johnson, Weston Northington and Nicholas Powell on their selection to this elite group.  #lrca2018

Yearbook takes Top State Honors

Members of the 2018 LRCA Yearbook Staff were recognized recently with top honors from the Arkansas Scholastic Press Association (ASPA), a state-wide community of scholastic yearbook, broadcast, film, literary magazine, online newspaper and print newspaper staffs and their advisers.

Third Grade Weaving Warriors

Third grade students were recently challenged to tackle a more difficult weaving art project.  This work required dedicated practice and work outside normal art class hours.  The following students rose to the challenge and created masterpieces!

Senior Nicolas Powell named as Stephens Scholar

Congratulations to senior Nicholas Powell on his selection as a 2018 Stephens Award recipient. The Stephens Award recognizes outstanding achievements by selected high school teachers and students in the central Arkansas area.

Senior Abby Blankenship receives National Photography Recognition

Senior Abby Blankenship, the LRCA yearbook photographer, was awarded this week as third place in the "Athletes in Action" category of Jostens 2018 National Photography Contest. Her picture of MJ Collins pulling down an airborne Bruin in the football battle against P.A. earlier this fall.

Students receive 15 Awards at AR Young Artist Association's state conference

Wednesday, April 11th, the High School Art Department in conjunction with Art Society took 39 students to compete in the annual Arkansas Young Artist Association art conference and competition. Schools from across the state gathered at the Statehouse Convention Center.  LRCA students received several awards in various categories.

High School Honors Ensemble awarded at State Level

On April 11th, LRCA's women's chorus "Nova Voce" traveled to UCA to compete at the state level before a panel of collegiate choral directors.  One hundred and eight choirs were selected to move on from the region to this state level competition.  These students received a First Division Rating and were named "Best in Class".

National Art Educator's Regional Competition

Ten students from Little Rock Christian Academy submitted artwork to the National Art Educator's Regional Art Competition. Teachers from around the Central Arkansas Region selected up to ten of their students' artwork. First, Second, Third place, and two Honorable Mentions were awarded in each grade. Little Rock Christian recieved four awards of the ten students who participated.

The Harkness Approach Brings Student-Centered, Discussion-Based Learning to LRCA
Dr. Justin Smith - LRCA Upper School Head/ Vice President

In this article, Dr. Justin Smith, LRCA Upper School Head and Vice President, describes the Harkness approach of collaboration and learning. The Harkness table offers a neutral, safe place for students to test out ideas, interpretations, and applications with peers and an expert teacher. Not only do students grow in their understanding of content, they also develop invaluable communication skills as they navigate discussions and learn to learn from others, digging deeper and using textual evidence to support their points.

With this program, students will discover their unique "blueprint" through the revolutionary intersection of aptitudes, interests and personality. It's a completely new way to understand where a student will succeed and allows LRCA to deliver even more effective and accurate guidance.
